Andrea De Paoli: Sound Design, Synths and the Art of Building Cinematic Musical Worlds

Andrea De Paoli: Sound Design, Synths and the Art of Building Cinematic Musical Worlds

Some artists don’t simply create sounds. They build entire worlds around them.

Andrea De Paoli is one of those musicians and sound designers whose work feels immediately connected to imagination, technology and emotion. Composer, keyboardist, producer and sound designer, Andrea has spent years moving between progressive metal, electronic music, synthwave and professional sound programming.

As Sabrina Schinaia, Content Manager at SynthCloud, I always look for artists who don’t treat sound design as a cold technical process, but as a real creative language. Andrea’s work belongs exactly to that world: sounds made to inspire, to be played, and to become part of real music.

Known for his work with bands such as Labyrinth, Vision Divine and Shadows of Steel, Andrea brings into sound design the experience of a musician who has lived the stage and the studio. This makes a difference. His sounds are not only detailed and powerful: they are playable, expressive and ready to sit inside a track.

Over the years, Andrea has collaborated with international artists and projects, taking part in more than 250 musical productions. His career includes collaborations connected to names such as Rick Wakeman, Mike Portnoy, Kevin Moore, Stef Burns, Michele Luppi and many others.

Alongside his musical path, Andrea has developed an important activity as a sound designer, collaborating with companies such as Arturia, Waves Audio, MeldaProduction, Reveal Sound, Loopmasters, Tone2, Synthonia and Sound7. His work focuses on virtual instruments, presets and professional soundbanks designed for musicians, producers and composers who need sounds with a strong identity.

Andrea is also deeply involved in education. Since 2018 he has been Director of the Synthesizers and Electronic Music course MKI Modern Keyboards within the MMI group, and in 2021 he published La fabbrica del suono, a book dedicated to synthesizers, electronic music and sound design.

What makes Andrea De Paoli’s sound design so interesting for SynthCloud is this mix of experience and vision. His sounds carry the precision of a programmer, the instinct of a performer and the imagination of a composer.

They are technical, but never cold. Cinematic, but always playable. And this is exactly what we love at SynthCloud: sounds that don’t simply fill a preset list, but make you want to create.

De Paoli’s background also includes a strong live dimension as a touring musician, shaped by the energy and language of the international rock and metal scene. References such as Dream Theater, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and Yngwie Malmsteen help frame the musical world around his work: technically demanding, powerful, melodic and deeply performance-oriented.

This vision now continues with Synthetica-X, his new project with Rockshots Records. With its first single coming out on June 3, Synthetica-X opens a new chapter in De Paoli’s career, merging modern metal, synthwave, futuristic electronics and cinematic sci-fi atmospheres into a sound that feels both heavy and forward-looking.

Stay tuned and keep your synths warm.
