Analog Soul, Digital Vision: The Sound World of Davide Scuteri

Analog Soul, Digital Vision: The Sound World of Davide Scuteri

As Sabrina Schinaia, Digital Content Manager at Synthcloud, I wanted to ask Davide Scuteri a few questions. He is a sound designer and producer with a strong focus on the world of software and modern analog-inspired synthesis, who collaborates with AYRA on the creation of virtual bundles on SynthCloud.

His work ranges from techno bundles to symphonic and cinematic metal productions, as well as projects related to the gaming world.

Davide, your focus is clearly on software. Why did you make this choice?

Software today offers incredible freedom. You can go deep, work on micro-modulation, and build complex sound architectures without physical limitations.

I like the idea of designing sounds from scratch, making the most of the synth engine. Software allows me to be extremely precise, both in terms of timbre and the dynamic behavior of the sound.

Your sound banks have a very “analog attitude” feel to them, even when you're working on virtual synths. Is that an aesthetic choice?

Absolutely. I love the analog character: controlled instability, warmth, natural movement. Even when I'm working on digital platforms, I always look for that organic feel.

I'm not interested in creating cold or overly clean sounds. I want them to have body, texture, personality.

You have developed bundles with a techno slant but also cinematic projects. How do these two souls coexist?

Actually, they coexist very well. Techno allows me to work on tension, hypnotic repetition, and sound pressure.

The cinematic side, on the other hand, leads me to build evolution, space, and emotional depth.

One example is Dystopian Era, available in the SynthCloud store and created together with Ayra for Spire: 104 dynamic pad presets designed to create atmosphere, but with a solid structure that can also be used in modern electronic productions.

You graduated from NAM. How much did your academic training influence your career?

A lot. Studying at NAM with Davide Pantaleo and at MMI with Andrea De Paoli gave me a strong technical foundation: synthesis, production, mixing.

But above all, it taught me method. Sound design requires creativity, but it also requires discipline: knowing why you are making a choice, not just “feeling” that it works.

You have also worked on a video game for PlayStation 5. How much does sound design change when you enter the gaming world?

It changes a lot. In gaming, sound is interactive, not linear.

You have to think about how it reacts to the player's actions, how it integrates with the environment, effects, and music. It's a more engineering-based approach, but also very stimulating. It forces you to think dynamically.

Let's talk about your collaboration with Ayra. How did it come about and what unites you creatively?

Ayra and I share a vision that is very focused on atmosphere and attention to detail.

When we work together, there is a constant exchange of ideas: textures, layering, tonal identity. It's not just a simple division of tasks, but a shared process.

I believe this synergy can be felt in the products.

If you had to describe your sound banks in three words?

Deep. Organic. Usable.

From our conversation with Davide, a clear line emerges: sound design as conscious design.

A balance between technical precision, analog sensitivity, and a modern vision of software, perfectly in line with the identity of the products available on Synthcloud.

Many thanks to Davide for his time and valuable collaboration. We look forward to continuing this journey together and sharing what’s next on SynthCloud.
